Yesterday Dorothy Kelly and I gave a fun talk on the use of of public records data across the auto quote and renewal lifecycle at the Verisk conference. The talk was fun, the business possibilities present tantalizing opportunities to look at very recent driving history data. One interesting insight - depending upon the state and the seriousness of the violation, it could take 3-6 months before a violation shows up in a formal driving history - with the increasing use of 6 month policies - a policy could move through a complete policy term (and renew) without any recognition of the change in risk. This might seem like a small thing until we put into a context of millions of renewing customers and new business applicants. It has a serious impact on underwriting integrity. I’m so happy to attend the research and networking conference sponsored by the UW Madison Data Science Institute UW–Madison Data Science Institute and American Family Insurance American Family Insurance today. We’ve had great talks reflecting on how AmFam and UW partnership furthers data science research.
