Phone makers who manage to make fanless 4 GHz processor phones could be the next legends. i want 4ghz but not the fan. Nope
hopefully we will see 3nm in S23. I hope it manages to beat the SD chips somehow. I hope this will help them to make more compact phones (impossible, I guess RAM manufacturing is also going to 3nm!!!)
Firewarrior96, June 22, 2022to be fair, these tests are still the typical benchmarks. we need a real in-depth analysis l… moreThere are more in-depth tests by Chinese youtuber geekerwan, showing the efficiency curves of the latest phone socs. Seems pretty decent, but I don’t know if they factored in idle power like anandtech does. And anandtech has been dead for such scrutiny since andrei and ian left.
SShock, June 22, 2022Yeah, sure sir Mediatek sux…Yes, go watch it.
3NM still too big I want 1 Yocto at most.
The real problem is excessive heat generation in a tiny area. Everyone will encounter this problem. The solution is to go with Chiplet Design until 3D cooling comes of age. Efficiency cores must be on a previous generation node.

The chips produced by Samsung are worse than TSMC, it is the fact unfortunately
Qlord, June 23, 2022Ask Nvidia and Qualcomm if they save 3nm Samsung chips, after being burned by… moreSamsung had many reasons to push towards GaA. Yields will improve and everyone is at least two years behind. However, design changes to the tools ecosystem will be difficult (like its pioneering work in fact), hope Synapses and others will help with the IP portfolio. The two-order-of-magnitude (duble) improvement is significant even if their previous half-knot wasn’t great. In fact, we probably hadn’t had such gains from a FinFet change of planarians (unfortunately, FD-SOI never really materialized in any meaningful form, which is a real shame). The real question is price and how much ecosystem Samsung can provide that will make or break it (including advanced packaging, interconnects, and stacking).
Super can’t wait to see how your 3nm chips will lose out to the iPhone 14 5nm battery comparison, as the 4nm Samsung and Snapdragon chips also lost out to the iPhone 13.
3nm will leak energy like crazy, improve power saving better on 4nm
Kai, June 22, 2022Samsung doesn’t know how to make chips properly even if a gun is put to their head… moreIf we ignore the fact that Samsung is the biggest chipmaker in the world, producing even more than Chipzilla. Even run Chipzilla with Samsung’s Node for next-gen fabs. Of course, Samsung is terrible.
If China were half as good at delivering as it is at spamming, it would be a pretty competitive country.

SShock, June 22, 2022Jesus, not yet this nonsense, streams of ignorant people who genie on the inferiority of Samsung… moreThe b/w d9000 and 8 gen 1 comparisons are on the golden reviewer’s channel. Spec, gfxbench, 3dmark, some games. Go check and cure your ignorance. I had hoped that you would be cured by now, but watch yourself spitting nonsense again.
SShock, June 22, 2022Oh my god, can we stop with this nonsense already? Associate a manufacturing node with a chip design quality? Sn… moreStill, it’s all down to Samsung being terrible. And Qualcomm performs better even with the same node, which makes Samsung even more terrible.
ddx, June 22, 2022Samsung caught cheating in TV benchmarks, promises software update 😉Very relevant comment…
Finally, Samsung will catch up with TSMC 5nm next year.
