Turkish defense company launches mass production of 12.7mm machine gun

Turkish CANiK, one of the world’s leading arms manufacturers operating under Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS), launched the serial production of the 12.7 mm PMT (platform machine gun), which was produced for the first time in the country.

Ismail Demir, head of the Defense Industries Presidency (SSB) broke the news on this via his Twitter account.

“The 12.7 millimeter PMT machine gun, which was produced locally for the first time, entered mass production,” he wrote.

Demir said Turkey didn’t even have a domestic rifle six or seven years ago, “but today we are at a level to produce high-caliber weapons ourselves.”

In his message, Demir also included the video of him doing a test firing with the domestically produced machine gun, the CANiK M2 QCB.

Demir, who visited the facilities of Samsun Yurt Savunma, the project’s contracting company, and reviewed the progress of the project on site, said the 12.7mm machine gun was designed to fire very quickly at various platforms. , and after the qualification processes have been successfully completed, the mass production phase has begun.

Stressing that deliveries to security forces will continue with mass production, Demir said, “This means that our security forces are equipped with weapons far superior to their foreign counterparts. We have paved the way for a new chain of success in this regard.

According to an SSB statement, the rifle’s qualification tests have been completed after more than a month of hard work. The CANiK M2 QCB air rifle has passed many tests such as high pressure, accelerated rain, salt spray, low and high temperature, icing and chemical interaction during the qualification process of about 1 million of shots.

As a result of the firing and qualification tests carried out, the gun was produced with materials and production methods that had never been used before in Turkey. The produced cannon was determined to have a higher service life than its foreign counterparts, and force shots confirmed that it was more durable.

The 12.7×99 millimeter machine gun, which is used on land, air and naval platforms and supplied was previously supplied from abroad.
