We're so proud of our students! They represented us well at the 2024 Spring Senior Design Showcase, sponsored by TI, Mitsubishi Power, L3Harris and Northrop Grumman. Out of the 180 projects submitted this semester, 45 were chosen to present their work live to the judges today. Our department had 13 projects chosen for the live showcase. Congratulations to this semester's winning computer science project, SmoothRide: AI Pothole Detection!Thank you our sponsors and volunteer judges for making this showcase possible, and congratulations to all of our seniors for their hard work and dedication on their projects!

Can we get these women a statue, please ? ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was the first electronic general-purpose computer, developed in the United States during World War II. It was used to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory. The computer was huge, taking up about 1,800 square feet of floor space, and weighed about 30 tons. The women behind ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) were often overlooked in history, but they played a crucial role in its development and programming. The six women who programmed ENIAC were Jean Bartik, Kathleen Antonelli, Marlyn Meltzer, Betty Holberton, Frances Spence, and Ruth Teitelbaum. These amazing women are known as the "ENIAC Girls," and their contributions were critical to the development and operation of the first general-purpose electronic computer.Despite its size and limitations, ENIAC was a significant step forward in computer technology, as it paved the way for the development of modern digital computers.#womenintech The Female Quotient

#Onthisday in 1943, a monumental event unfolded in the realm of technology. The construction contract for the world’s first fully electronic, digital computer "ENIAC" (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was signed, forever altering the course of computing #history. The development started in secret a month later with the code name "Project PX" and was funded by the United States Army.Designed by engineers J. Presper Eckert and John W. Mauchly, it was an awe-inspiring creation. But did you know that behind the scenes were six women—Fran Bilas, Jean Bartik, Ruth Lichterman, Kay McNulty, Betty Snyder, and Marlyn Wescoff—who programmed the ENIAC and played a vital role in its success?Today, we stand in awe of the ENIAC's legacy and its profound impact on our world. From the early days of computing to the present, the principles and technologies pioneered by the ENIAC have become the bedrock of our digital age.📸 By Unidentified U.S. Army photographer - Image from Historic Computer Images, Public Domain, https://lnkd.in/da7WnHMD #WomenOnIT #womenintech #womenintechnology #WomenInSTEM #interestingfacts #didyouknow #thisdayintech #technology #womenwhocode #girlcoders

The end of World War II was accelerated by using Alan's mathematical and cryptologic skills to crack the ENIGMA, a Nazi encryption machine. Intelligence from Bletchley Park, where Turing and his team were based, helped save many lives. For his contributions to modern computing, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) named their award the Turing Award!#markoding#digitalinnovation#codingbootcamp#uiuxbootcamp#webdevelopment

The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer) was one of the earliest electronic general-purpose computers, developed during World War II primarily to calculate artillery firing tables for the United States Army. Completed in 1945, ENIAC was a massive machine, consisting of thousands of vacuum tubes and weighing over 27 tons. Its development marked a significant milestone in the history of computing, paving the way for modern digital computers. The ENIAC programmers, a team of six women, played a crucial role in programming the ENIAC to perform various calculations, including trajectory calculations for ballistic missiles and other wartime computations. These women were hired as “computers” before the term “programmer” even existed. They had backgrounds in mathematics and science, and they learned to program the ENIAC through hands-on experience, often without formal training or documentation. The work of the ENIAC programmers was groundbreaking, as they developed the software and algorithms necessary to operate the ENIAC effectively. However, their contributions were often overlooked or downplayed. For example, when the ENIAC was unveiled to the public in 1946, the press coverage focused primarily on the machine itself and its male engineers, while the programmers received little recognition.Following the success of the ENIAC, several members of the programming team, including Jean Jennings Bartik and Betty Snyder Holberton, went on to work on the UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Computer), one of the first commercially available computers. The UNIVAC, developed by the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation, was notable for being the first computer to handle both numerical and textual information, making it suitable for a wider range of applications beyond scientific calculations.#ENIAC #womensempowerment #univac #technologicaladvancement #techlearning #primathonacademy #eniacproject #eniacprogrammers
