Last week, I officially closed out the 55th Session of the Legislative Branch at Passing the Gavel. At this event, I had the oppurtunity to reminise on our accomplishments and award our top performing student body senators. As Speaker, I’ve learned and have seen the fruits of management and mentor-style leadership. I have signed over 60 pieces of legislation that has positively impacted students’ academics, campus life, and overall wellbeing. This inclduded building bonds with entities such as UCF's Faculty Senate and our college deans.Additionally, for the first time in years, our branch allocated all available funds to advance students’ collegiate and career opportunities to various diverse registered student organizations. Our caucuses have hosted events and provided legislative support for communities on campus like BHM Food Truck Fridays, Sereni-Tea, Women’s Market Day, and countless more. I wish I could write out all of our branch’s accomplishments as well as my personal initiatives as Speaker! This past year has been surrounded by the themes of collaboration, creativity, and community. Without these shared values that Pro Tempore Akhila Damarla and I have established, and the dedication of our wonderful senators, we wouldn’t have been able to truly reach for the stars. With honor and gratitude, Madam Speaker out!

Last month, our President’s Leadership Council Retreat was nothing short of refreshing. We heard from NASA engineer and UCF alum, Justin Jonud, and visited the Kennedy Space Center. This experience deepened my understanding of our continuous mission to space. One thing that resonated with me was the significance of space policy as a Political Science major.I thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with my PLC peers outside of a school setting. #SpaceU

Fall 2023 was nothing short of successsful. I’ve had the honor of representing students on Homecoming Court. I’ve also have had the privilege of leading the Legislative Branch, assisting it in reaching new heights as an active entity on campus. In October, Protempore Akhila Damarla and I, held a successful retreat and legislative workshop. While providing a productive setting, our college senators submitted and later passed legislation to improve their academics in some aspect. My office provided a presentation on how to professionally meet with UCF administration and improve their résumés.Unprecedentedly, majority of our caucuses and committiees have either held an event and/or passed legislation to support their communities on campus. I’ve signed 22 resolutions and 11 proclamations that have encapsulated these impactful efforts. It has been a pleasure to not only see these students grow as a leaders, but be a mentor to the them for the past eight months. As our session will soon come to a close, I can’t wait to see what else we will accomplish.

Over the past weekend, I had the remarkable opportunity to represent our Legislative Branch at the Big 12 Student Government Conference in Fort Worth, Texas. During my presentation, I showcased the outstanding and growing numbers of funding for students and Registered Student Organizations. Additionally, I introduced our unique minority caucuses, which have been diligently planning and hosting events throughout this semester. I had the privilege of learning from other student governments and providing insight to them. Touring Texas Christian University was an incredible experience. Not only did I enjoy the warm Texas hospitality, but I also valued meeting student leaders with the similar mission of student advocacy.

Last Friday, UCF Student Government had the chance to host "Pet the Pups with Legislatice Branch." We provided students with the opportunity to learn more about our branch while unwinding after a busy week of events and classes. This event had an overwhelming turnout, with so many students attending that a handful even submitted applications to become senators and to join the Student Government's Leadership Council. I want to thank UCF PD for their participation and, my colleague, Pro Tempore Damarla for helping me put this event together. Also, a special thanks to Chief of Staff Jennifer Sobrinho for hosting such an amazing week filled with outstanding events, including this one.

Black Caucus’ third business showcase was nothing short of a success. Passing the baton to Chair Ariel Datilus was the best thing for the caucus moving forward to my position of Senate President. She exceeded expectations using her connections inside and outside Senate. We were visited by Shawn Welcome, Anna V. Eskamani, MPA, MNM, Leah Freeman, and Ms. Ferguson that represented Mayor Demings’ office. Mayor Buddy Dyer gifted us with a proclamation that established Black Business Month for August 2023. I was more than happy to assist Chair Datilus with obtaining these guests and with anything she needed to be successful today. Shoutout to our fellow caucus members who made this possible. I sincerely look forward to assisting our other minority caucuses of SG to thrive this year. This is only the beginning!!Another shoutout to D&I Coordinator Roshna Cherguail for her food contribution to our event.

Today I had the wonderful opportunity of attending the swearing in of 5 UCFPD officers: Talbot Allen, Hayden Bonas, Andres Carbone, Rudy Castaneda, and Tyesa Spidell. As well of the promotions of Sergeant Alexander and Corporal Panter. As a student and Speaker of SG’s Senate, this event reaffirmed my trust in UCFPD and the dedication and love they have for our college community. Thank you for the invitation, Chief Metzger! And congratulations to all of our officers!
